On this second day of the 64-node Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Build, I continued with batches #2 and #3 of the Foundation process.
If you are not familiar with Nutanix Foundation; this is the process of imaging a Nutanix node with the required Nutanix Acropolis Operating System (‘AOS’) and the desired Hypervisor (Nutanix AHV, VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V). Nutanix has created a tool for this imaging process and named it Foundation. Foundation can be used in different ways:
-
- Virtual Machine (Oracle VirtualBox or VMware Fusion/Workstation)
- Application (Microsoft Windows or Apple MacOS)
As part of the Foundation process, you can choose to immediately create a cluster out of the selected nodes. I did not choose this option as I will create the various Nutanix clusters separately on another day.
In the video you can see that I am using the VM version of Foundation running on Oracle VirtualBox. This is my preferred method (at the moment).
The second batch of today’s Foundation process consisted out of the entire 12-node Backend cluster. The third batch was the small, yet very important, 3-node DMZ cluster. All of these nodes have been imaged with VMware ESXi 6.7 U2 as the chosen Hypervisor.
At having completed the Foundation process, the temporary switches and cables are removed. Thereafter the nodes can be connected to the Top-of-Rack (ToR) switches installed in each server rack.
All done for today!
