Yesterday, Nutanix published two long awaited new releases of their Nutanix software AOS and Prism Central:

    • AOS 5.18
    • Prism Central 2020.8

Nutanix AOS 5.18

Nutanix AOS 5.18 is a STS Major release and comes packaged with NCC 3.10.0.6, Foundation- 4.5.4.1 and AHV 20190916.253. Note that the involved AHV bundle was already available on July 27th.

What’s New?

The following are new or updated features in this release:

    • Self-Service Restore (SSR) Support for Leap
    • Cross-Hypervisor Disaster Recovery (CHDR) Support for NearSync Replication in Leap
    • Inline Compression Enabled by Default for New Storage Containers
    • Inline Erasure Coding-X Enabled for Objects Storage Containers
    • Recycle Bin for Guest VM and vDisk Recoverability (can only be enabled by Nutanix Support)
    • Selective Scans for Disk Balancing
    • Health Monitoring for Network Segmentation
    • Blockstore support for AOS
    • Storage Capacity Reporting Enhancements
    • Timestamp Change for Nutanix Logs
    • RDMA Support for ESXi
    • NVMe Partial Population on NX-8170-G7 with AHV
    • Hot-Swapping NVMe Drives on NX-8170-G7 with AHV
    • Support for ESXi Secure Boot for Host leveraging hardware UEFI and Secure Boot Enabled Nodes

Nutanix has updated the ESXi 1-click metadata, Hyper-V metadata, OEM-Dell and OEM-Lenovo json, OEM-fujitsu json, OEM-HPE json files. Also, the Upgrade Paths, Compatibility Matrix and Software Interoperability portal pages have been updated, to reflect 5.18 supportability.

Prism Central 2020.8

Nutanix Prism Central 2020.8 is the first release with the new version numbering that differs from the AOS release version numbering.

Note that Prism Central now requires additional resources to encompass all the new features on 1-PC VM instances:

    • Small: 6 vCPU & 26GB RAM
    • Large: 10 vCPU & 44GB RAM
